....OK LET ME EXPLAIN.

First. I like to imagine Wildbow with a freaking majestic beard and a beanie (because yes, I call them BEANIES, or a knit cap and not... a... toque. You silly Canadians. What the hell kind of word IS THAT.)

Secondly. Wildbow was been writing in the comments section of each new chapter to give us updates of his brother's wedding he's been helping with, and at one point he shared a story of a hellish week that involved suit shopping and his family's car trying to blow up. I suggested that it was the EYE causing them trouble and ever since, have had this scene in my head. And yes, being mature and giggling about the word "hoser".

Still so many pieces I'm working on.
And I'm doodling Buttsack at work now.

Here's a quick and tiny 5 X 7 drawing of everyone's favorite little guy.

Apologies for lack of posting. Things are crazy right now for me.

I have 2 big pieces half-finished I hope I can find time to work on this week: a request for something from the faerie realm, and a pretty large one of Rose's face as she awakens.


Meanwhile, Wildbow is in full-on wedding mode, and breaking our hearts with these new chapters.

(I'm terrible at sizing things as I'm drawing. Sorry if these are hard to view because of their odd shape. Was going for a banner kind of thing. Frustrated that it not entirely symmetrical but I'm letting its go before I permanently check-in to crazytown.) 

Sometimes its hard to imagine Blake and Rose together, with the same features. We know that they're basically the same person, but how much of them are exactly the same? What hand gestures, what expressions? I keep doodling parts of their faces, and especially scenes where they're side by side so I can try to pin their appearances down. And then I came up with this, where they are two halves of a whole. Just an idea/practice, as I'm fleshing out more illustrations from the book.

So.

(Personal update: I don't have another day off for the next 9 days, so this is it for the week. Will be back to working on stuff hopefully next monday, but in the meantime I need to remember to sleep and eat.)

“Scared?” Rose asked. 

“Yep,” I said.  I moved the wreath, and checked it over. [...]

Evan descended, setting down on my shoulder.

“It’s an old building,” he said. 

“Yeah,” I replied, still pushing the wreath forward. [...]

“There’s nothing in a lot of the windows.  No people, no things, no walls, no floors,” Evan said.

“Yeah,” Rose said.  “Only emptiness.” 

“A little more afraid, now,” I said. 

“Good,” Rose told me.  “Fear keeps you alive.  Just don’t panic."

This one has too much crammed into a small space; I intend to come back and expand it further - make it into a wide scene. My photo wound up a bit dark as well, which is annoying.

Is it just me or is Rose's face (unintentionally) bitchy looking? ha.
But then again. Maybe she's in that super bossy mode. (Maybe it works?)

Notebook: "look like you could be possessed"

“I was instructed to bring you to the factory building,” Fell said.  “Turn around, look at me.” 

I did, leaning against the car door for support. 

“What?” I asked. 

“I don’t have to bring you if I have reason to believe you’re not you.  You look like you could be possessed.” 

“You’re fucking with me?” I asked. 

“If your head turned around three hundred and sixty degrees,” Fell said, his tone placid, “and you started spewing projectile vomit everywhere, I wouldn’t be particularly surprised.”

So this was a fun one. Didn't turn out the way I initially wanted it to... but I wanted to sort of capture what a very tired and fucked up Blake might look like when using the Sight. Which somehow includes flame-like hair? Maybe its the radiation.

I have no idea.

I intend to come back and finish fleshing out this scene - drawing Fell with a gun is ever so fun :D

Personal update: injured my hand last week - its healed now and I've been an insomniac since then, churning doodles out left and right. Hoping I'll get lots of little goodies posted this week. 

3.x - Sandra and Hildr

"Dark skinned, white furred, Hildr was more wart and scar than clean flesh where flesh was visible, her hair and fur were long and tied into braids as thick around as Sandra’s arm, the longest braids locked into place with iron shackles that could be used to dash a man’s skull to pieces.  Her arms were disproportionately long, with lines and cords of muscle visible even beneath the long, brushed fur.  All in all, she was of a size and bulk that suggested she could catch a charging rhino and wrestle it to the ground."

From the initial description of Hildr, I knew I had to draw her.
I mean, its a Scandinavian TROLL. That's so badass.

Here is a quick Sandra sketch, from how she is initially described in her "histories" chapter... reluctantly wearing a corset, with her chalice, and little stoat around her shoulders. I did my best to draw something like an 80's fantasy gown haha.

I'm beginning work on the following scene, where she negotiating with the Faerie, in their realm. At first I was thrilled, but now... *sobs* the detail. OH GOD THE LEVEL OF DETAIL. WHY.


UPDATE: woke up with a swollen hand. Tendinitis flared up in my drawing hand's thumb and wrist overnight; it happens from time to time. Going to let off the drawing for a few days so this can heal. I still have to use my hands at work quite a bit, but hopefully that will be alright.

I think I wound up putting about 48 hours of work into this one. I've been staring at this face for over 2 weeks straight. Losing my mind a little haha.
